Location, Location, Location…

Picking the perfect venue for our ceremony and reception was incredibly important to us and on top of our to-do list. Without booking a location, it was a merely impossible task to do any other wedding planning. After months of researching on the web, we scheduled appointments to see venues. We went to a couple of places until we went to our Drake Hotel appointment. That was it. Done deal. It’s the most beautiful, romantic, classic venue in downtown Chicago and I fell in love for the second time in my life! My heart was set. After negotiation (as any frugal bride should do), we signed the contract and walked away feeling amazing! We were able to get everything we wanted for a fraction of the cost.

Here are some important tips when deciding on a wedding venue:

  • Decide on a budget: Whether you are a frugal bride to be or open to any price point, be sure you and your fiancee have a clear idea of how much you want to spend. Pick a budget that is not only friendly to your wallet, but also reasonable. There are so many factors in figuring this out. By doing research online, you can find some great budget charts to help you in this process. For our wedding, I knew I wanted to keep the budget low. I’ve always been frugal at heart but still wanted a very romantic, beautiful wedding. This can be done!
  • Pick a theme:  Are you going to be doing a themed wedding? What season will you be getting married in? What is the overall feel you want your guests to experience? Whatever your desire, pick a theme and stick through it throughout your entire wedding planning process. This will not only give you a clear direction, but it will also create a well rounded wedding that everyone will remember. Our theme is love, romance, and elegance. Imagine dark red flowers, tons of candles and rose petals, gemstones, and true love.
  • Picking a location:  Before picking your perfect venue, decide on how many guests you want to invite. This is an important step in the planning process because it will help you decide on a location. Your theme also has a huge part to do with picking a location. If you’re going for a casual theme, you can have a backyard wedding. Whatever you decide, have a cohesive vision and check out venues that fit what you want. By setting up with appointments to view the locations, you will get a much better idea of the space. I’m all about the flow of a room and the energy it gives off. When visiting a few places, I knew almost instantly if I liked it because of the vibe of the room. It’s all about how you and your loved ones feel when they walk in.

Planning our wedding has been the most enjoyable, emotional, and exciting moments in my whole life. Remember to enjoy these moments because you won’t experience them again!
